Deep brain stimulator support group holiday party - Dec. 5

Sat, Dec 5, 2009 11:00 a.m.

A support group for deep brain stimulator (DBS) patients will hold a holiday party from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, 750 Cypress Station Drive.

Lunch is provided.

DBS is a treatment option for Parkinson’s Disease symptoms that are not treated by medications, including shaking, stiffness and slowness. The procedure involves implanting an electromagnetic “pacemaker” on one or both sides of the brain. This treatment is often utilized by patients who have exhausted other means of treatment. DBS is a treatment option offered by only a handful of hospitals in the country, including Baptist East.

The support group is for those who have received DBS, and those who are interested in the procedure.

Registration is required by calling the Baptist Hospital East Information Center at (502) 897-8131.
