Learn about driver safety from AARP - July 24
The AARP will be teaching a course on driver safety to older persons from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 24. The session will be held in the Physical Therapy gym on the fourth floor of the 4002 Building (Building D) at Baptist Hospital East.
A volunteer instructor from the AARP will discuss defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws and rules of the road.The class will also cover making adjustments for common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. You will learn about:
- maintaining proper following distance at all times,
- the safest way to change lanes and make turns at intersections,
- the effects of medications on driving,
- minimizing the effect of dangerous blind spots,
- limiting driver distractions such as eating, smoking and cell phone use,
- properly using safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes,
- maintaining physical flexibility,
- continuing to monitor your own and others' driving skills and capabilities.
AARP is a non-profit organization that helps aging individuals to improve the quality of their lives.
Refreshments will be served.
After taking the course, participants may qualify for an auto insurance premium reduction or discount. Check with your insurance company.
