Three babysitting classes offered in July
Youngsters age 12 and older who are looking for opportunities to fill the summer months are invited to learn all about babysitting by taking one of three classes offered by Baptist Hospital East.
The class will be from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, July 17; Monday, July 20; and again on
Friday, July 31 in the second-floor Education Center of the hospital, 4000 Kresge Way.
Chris Summerfield, R.N., women’s health community educator at Baptist East, will teach students about childcare basics and first aid. Stacy Mattingly, director of the Baptist East Center for Child Development, will instruct the new sitters in how to interact with children and the characteristics of each age group. Mattingly will teach the students from 9:30 a.m.-noon in the child development center.
“This course is designed to help future sitters gain the confidence needed to do the job well and also feel good about what they’re doing,” Summerfield said.
Cost of the class is $20 per person, and includes lunch (choice of individual pizza or sub sandwich), supplies and materials. Participants may wish to bring money for soft drinks and snacks from a vending machine during the day. Class size is limited.
Advance reservations are required and may be made by calling the Baptist Hospital East Information Center at (502) 897-8131.
For easy access to the Education Center, parents dropping off students may wish to park in the hospital garage and take the second floor pedway to the hospital. Signs will be posted for the classroom location.
