Baptist East again named one of nation's 100 Top Hospitals
Baptist Hospital East has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® for the second consecutive year by Solucient, an Evanston, Ill., company that offers resources to hospitals and pharmaceutical companies through a national healthcare database.
Baptist East was the only Louisville hospital named to the list and one of only 20 hospitals recognized in the “Large Community Hospital” category (those with more than 250 beds).
Four other Kentucky hospitals were named: King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland (also in the “Large Community Hospital” category); Saint Joseph East in Lexington in the “Medium Community Hospital” category; and Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown and Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, both in the “Small Community Hospital” category.
The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance, and adaptation to the environment. The 13th edition of Solucient’s 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study appears in a special supplement to the Feb. 27 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
“This honor is a direct reflection of the diligent work of our employees, physicians, volunteers and board members to make Baptist East the preferred hospital in Louisville,” said Baptist East President Susan Stout Tamme. “Without their continued efforts to make our hospital a ‘stand-out’ in terms of quality care, we wouldn’t enjoy the success we’re realizing today.”
The 13th edition of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study uses a balanced scorecard approach and scores hospitals according to nine key organization-wide measures: risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, patient safety, growth in patient volume, severity-adjusted average length of stay, expense per adjusted discharge, profit from operations, cash to debt ratio and tangible assets per discharge.
Baptist Hospital East, located in St. Matthews, offers a wide range of healthcare services to meet the needs of Louisville-area residents. The hospital's cancer services include a freestanding Radiation Center, in addition to Baptist East's Cancer Resource Center. Other special services include women's health, offering all-private maternity rooms, mammography, ultrasound and bone-density scanning for osteoporosis.
Area residents also benefit from the hospital's emergency services, including the Chest Pain Unit and Trager Pediatric Emergency Care. Other areas of expertise include orthopaedics, neurosurgery, cardiovascular services, behavioral health, rehabilitation, sleep disorders, occupational health and in-home care provided by Baptist Hospital East Home Health Agency.
