Special features for patients and families
- All private patient rooms of nearly 400 square feet (double the size of current private rooms; the largest in Louisville) with handicapped accessible bathrooms
- Only 24 rooms on each nursing unit
- Hotel-like touches, including wood floors, cloth shower curtains, flat screen TV and a cushioned twin-bed width window seat designed for an overnight guest
- Two specially-equipped rooms on each floor for larger patients
- Kitchenettes and counseling rooms connected to family waiting areas on each floor
- Sleep rooms available for out-of-town families on a first-come, first-serve basis
- Wireless Internet service for the convenience of families and patients
- Healing Garden outside for patients and their families
- Views of beautiful Brown Park
- More natural light in patient rooms
- Covered parking spaces dedicated to outpatient surgery located on ground floor
- Two public elevators for access to all eight floors

Ground (first) floor – Lobby with two elevators for the public.
Second floor – Outpatient surgery
- Eight operating rooms (for a total of 32)
- Eight recovery (Post-Anesthesia Care) beds (for a total of 64)
- 24 rooms with private bathrooms where patients prepare for surgery, then return after the procedure to be reunited with family members

- Waiting room linked to the existing surgery waiting area on the second floor of the main hospital
Third floor – Oncology
- Outpatient infusion center for IV treatments, including chemotherapy and blood transfusions
Fourth floor – Medical/Surgical
Fifth floor – Neurosciences for care of stroke and neurological surgery patients
Sixth floor – Women’s Health, medical/surgical care exclusively for women
Seventh & eighth floors – Orthopedics
- Dedicated floor for total joint replacement patients
- On-site physical therapy gym
Estimated cost: $130 million, including equipment and furnishings
Funding sources: Primarily from government-sponsored bonds, along with private donations.
