Lung Cancer Support Group Begins September 4

Helping advanced lung cancer patients breathe easier - physically, emotionally and spiritually - is the focus of a new support group which launches Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Each group will meet for 8 weeks, on Wednesdays from 2-3 p.m. in the Baptist Health Cancer Resource Center, 4007 Kresge Way. Light refreshments will be served.

Each week, an expert will discuss a topic such as how to breathe with ease, advanced care planning, having a living will and spiritual concerns. Caregivers also encouraged to attend.

Facilitating the group will be an experienced trio: Sarah Everette, oncology social worker; Martha Risen, lung cancer nurse navigator, and Laura Mitchell, oncology clinical nurse specialist.

"This group will provide education, emotional support, and resources as an opportunity for caregivers and patients to come together and support one another in this phase of life," said Everette.

The next group will begin in January 2014.

To register for this free group, call the Baptist Health Information Center at (502) 897-8131.
