Pneumonia Appropriate Care Measure
Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs caused by a viral or bacterial infection. This infection can fill the lungs with mucus and lower the oxygen level in the blood. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing, chills, a "wet" cough, and chest pain.
The eight pneumonia measures are:
| PN-1 | Oygenation assessment |
| PN-2 | Pneumococcal vaccination |
| PN-3a | Blood culture within 24 hours of arrival |
| PN-3b | Blood culture before antibiotic (Emergency Department) |
| PN-4 | Adult smoking cessation advice/counseling |
| PN-5b | Initial Antibiotic given within 4 hours of arrival |
| PN-6 | Given the most appropriate initial Antibiotics |
| PN-7 | Influenza (flu) vaccination |
The graph below illustrates the “composite” measure of how consistently our hospital provided evidence-based care for Pneumonia in 2007.
Baptist Hospital East strives to attain the highest score possible on this measure.
